ERP programmes are typically divided into a series of defined stages, with progress between them controlled through stage gates. These gates provide a formal checkpoint to confirm that the essential activities, decisions and deliverables needed to proceed have been completed.
The four stages are:
Procure: Select and procure the technology and implementation partners needed to deliver the programme.
Define: Establish what will be delivered and agree how the solution will be designed and implemented.
Deliver: Build, configure and test the solution, while preparing the organisation for deployment.
Deploy: Transition to the new solution, go live and establish it in operation.
An ERP programme can typically take anywhere from 12 to 24 months. However, each programme is different so this can vary. Below is a typical timeline for a complex and large-scale ERP transformation.
